Israeli Channel 12 revealed that the United States asked Israel to inform it in advance of any “focused” assassination operations it carries out in Lebanon, stressing at the same time its refusal to bring down buildings during military operations. According to Israeli sources, Washington was aware in advance of the recent raid that targeted Hezbollah leader Ali al-Husseini in Beirut, after Israel informed it of the existence of an “operational opportunity” to carry out the assassination, which made the operation considered within the “rules of the game” between the two parties. The channel indicated that Al-Husseini is responsible for the missile system in the party’s “Imam Hussein” division, and that the force to which he belongs is linked to the Iranians, which gave the operation “additional importance” from the Israeli point of view. The report added that Israel conducted political and military consultations to discuss response options, but American restrictions, especially the refusal to target the party’s central strongholds or destroy buildings, prompted the adoption of what was described as “field control.” In this context, the channel said that the political and military level in Israel is working to separate the relationship between Hezbollah and the ongoing negotiations with Iran, considering that the indirect negotiations with Lebanon may be long and complex, but they serve the goal of distancing the party from Tehran. The report also spoke of increasing Israeli fears of suicide drones, noting that the army is studying new means to improve warning and defense systems, including interception networks, fragmentation munitions, and even “hunting rifles,” in an attempt to confront this rising threat.
